I love the look of canvases, but I find that they’re very expensive , especially enlarged.
So I decided to make my own canvas with an 18 x 20 photo I got from free from Wal-Mart via a sweet coupon.
Although the photo isn’t really printed on the canvas, it gives it the same illusion
HOW TO Make a DIY Canvas:
What you’ll need – 18 x 20 Photo (or any size you’d like), Canvas from a craft store that matches the size of your photo,
Mod Podge, Paintbrush
1. Cover the canvas in a thick layer of Mod Podge
2. Cover the photo on a thick layer of Mod Podge
3. Carefully lay the photo on the canvas
4. Let this fully dry
5. When it is dry, paint a thin layer of Mod Podge on the top of the photo, going only one direction
(this will feel weird because you’re painting on the photo, but I promise this is how you get the illusion of canvas)
Trust the process!
6. Let this fully dry
7. When it is dry, spread a thin layer of Mod Podge, going the opposite direction you went last time
8. Let this fully dry
9. Trim off any excess photo paper from the sides
10. At this point, you can paint the sides of the canvas a color of your choice, or you can keep it white.
Here are a couple prints I made on the computer, printed them off on cute paper, spray painted the frames and added them to our bedroom decor! I think they make a great addition.
If you want to print this for your own home, visit this blog!
I’ll add that the frames are from the Salvation Army- 50 cents, baby! For this print, I typed out the lyrics of the song we danced to at our wedding- “What a Wonderful World” (by Louis Armstrong)
I enlarged the words “I love you”
