We’re Still Alive!

Wow! Please pardon the (3 month) interruption. Life sure has a way of keeping us busy, am I right?

In December, we found out that we are expecting another little! For the 14 weeks following that incredible news, I was pretty much a walking zombie. Morning sickness really kicked my behind this time around, but yet again, I survived! And really, it’s the best reason in the world to be sick, so I’m not complaining 🙂

Were Still Alive!Charlotte went with us to our first sonogram and picked up the new word “baby”. It has, since then, been her FAVORITE word. When she hears a baby crying in the store, she looks at me and says “baby!”. When she sees a kid on TV, she points and tell us “baby!”. It’s pretty adorable. She shares her binky and blankets with her baby doll. When the baby doll “cries’, she gives her the binky, puts her little finger up to her mouth and says “sshhh”. She’s got this mommy thing down! Little does she know she will be LIVING with a baby in 5 short months. I’m convinced she’s going to be a really great big sister. Were Still Alive!

I go between feeling SO excited, to really terrified to have 2 kids. Then I remind myself…people do this all the time, we can do it! No matter what, though, I feel a constant sense of gratefulness that God is giving me another child to love. I know it will become our “new normal”, but it’s just very hard to imagine splitting my time between a newborn, my first born (who has been, up to this point our favorite!!) and my husband. It will take some adjusting, and then it will just be life. And I’m excited for that 🙂 Eric is just plain excited, so it helps to hear his perspective when I’m doubting my mothering capabilities. He’s the rock, forever the rock in this family.

Were Still Alive!Despite the tiredness, “nesting” has officially kicked in. This is serious, people. Eric’s list of honey-dos is out.of.control. Luckily for me, he’s super handy, efficient, and very motivated. I hope to share some of the exciting DIY projects we’ve (and by we I mean I get the idea and the hubby makes it happen) been up to!

Were Still Alive!

Although I’ve been seriously neglecting this space, I think about it all the time and really enjoy sharing our life. So, thanks for hanging in there! Hopefully I’ll be back soon!

Fireside Five for Friday: The Hall’s Edition

Happy Friday to all! Life is getting a little crazy these last few weeks leading up to our little miss getting here. We’re trying to mark lots of things off of our to-do lists in preparation for her arrival. We know we won’t have as much “free time” when she’s here, so crunch time is on! I am taking it easy, don’t worry…so that does slow me down quite a bit. Eric just put in an electric fence for Mr. Barkley and I’ve been hard at work on my new business venture. There’s always something to do around here! However, we’ve been making a huge effort to relax when we can and to spend time with friends. We know things will change a lot, so these are some top priorities right now.

Fireside Five for Friday: The Halls Edition

I’m going to switch things up a little this Friday! This Five for Friday is all about our weekend with the Halls! Since we’ve been so busy, I don’t exactly have a lot of exciting things to share from our week. BUT, we did have an awesome time with our friends last weekend that I still need to share! Our friends, the Halls, came to visit from Oklahoma! Zach and Eric played soccer together in high school and Ashley also went to their high school, so they’ve known each other for a long time. I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely couple shortly after Eric and I started dating, and loved them! We have since moved away, moved back and they had their adorable daughter, Ella! Life happened for us both, but now we’re living closer and can make weekend visits a regular thing. Yay! We had a blast with them, so here’s a little recap for you all…Fireside Five for Friday: The Halls Edition
ONE– Just look at this adorableness!

Fireside Five for Friday: The Halls Edition
We spent Saturday catching up over breakfast and coffee, eating lunch at the famous Topeka Bobo’s Drive-In, grilling, and having ‘smores over the firepit. That’s my idea of a good day!

TWO–
Fires are fun! ‘Smores make them even better! Too bad Ashley and I were the only ones who enjoyed the deliciousness. What’s up with that, boys?

THREE–
Eric made a new friend! He and Ella have a special connection. Every time he held her, she was in a trance. She even fell asleep on his lap. It was the most precious thing to watch! He’s going to be such a great Dad 🙂

FOUR– Nothin’ like two men in the kitchen. Isn’t amazing how grilling makes men excited about cooking?

FIVE– Of course, the guys had to get out on the little pond of ours to see if they could catch anything. No such luck, but they can’t say they didn’t try! We’re getting more and more wildlife out there, which has been fun to watch. The most recent inhabitant is turtles!

Sunday, we went to church and had brunch. We were sad to see them go, but so happy to have had such a great weekend together. It’s such a blessing to have friends like the Halls’! We’re excited to be living so much closer and can make these weekends a regular occurrence 🙂

Fireside Five for Friday!

Someone please tell me where this week went. I cannot believe we’re headed into another weekend! Sometimes it’s just scary to me how fast time seems to fly around here. I’m sure you can relate. With that said, I can’t complain that the workweek goes fast and another weekend is upon us! I live for weekends, let me tell ya. We’re having friends (and their adorable little one) from Oklahoma visit this weekend and we’re super excited!

I’m linking up for 5 on Friday with some fun bloggers, so if you want to do the same, click on the logo below!

Here we go!

ONE– One of my favorite parts of summertime is the fresh produce. I’m sure I’m not alone in this. To me, there’s nothing better than vegetables from the garden. Our friends Michelle and Thayne have two ginormous gardens this year. We, on the other hand, have zero (tear). They were super generous and sent us home with some of their loot (red potatoes, jalpenos, tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchinis)! I see zucchini bread in our future…Fireside Five for Friday!

TWO– Just take a look at this beauty. Eric just finished the guest bedroom headboard! Trust me, he’ll be doing a post on how this gem came together so you can make one yourself. I told him that a rustic barnwood headboard would be cool, so in prime Eric fashion, he went above and beyond! He not only made it rustic with barnwood, he equipped it with two reading lights. Hello amazing! Our guests will be sleeping in style. They look pretty awesome turned on but my phone camera just wasn’t doing it justice. Fireside Five for Friday!

THREE–  Well, last week the nursery looked like a garage sale, and this week it’s beginning to look more like the nursery I had envisioned. I really had no idea how much stuff goes into a baby’s room. It’s definitely not where I want it to be…it’s a tad on the cluttered side I’d say, but it’s getting there. And honestly, I do realize that our baby doesn’t care what her nursery looks like, and really it just needs to be functional. But as a new mommy, I want this room to be everything I have dreamed of! Fireside Five for Friday!

FOUR– Can you say SHARK WEEK? Who doesn’t love this epic week of Discovery Channel heaven? There’s something pretty fascinating about the massive creatures that makes me want to record every show and watch them consecutively while eating junk food. Who knows what that’s about. I’m pretty sure people take off an entire week of work for this ish.

FIVE– I feel like my husband deserves an award for his handyman skills. He tiled this bathroom like a boss! It looks so professional, it’s unreal. And the craziest part is that it was his first time tiling with real tile, a tile saw, etc. We tiled the bathroom in the old house with peel and sticks and grout, but this was the real deal, and I was of NO help this time around. I’m really just in awe of his skill and determination. He is one of the hardest workers I know. And he does this all after a long day’s work! What a champ. Just add it to the long list of reasons I’m blessed to call him my guy 🙂

Family Baby Shower!

I had my last and final baby shower the other weekend. WOW, is all I can say. From the amazing, colossal cupcakes my Aunt Ann made, to the flood of creative, thoughtful presents, I was pretty overwhelmed (in the best way possible).  This shower was for family, so I was lucky enough to have people from all sides of Eric and my family join us. It was so special to have everyone there to celebrate with. I was definitely showered that day!
Here’s a snippet of the celebration…

Everyone had a lovely time thanks to your hospitality 🙂 I’m feeling blessed beyond words to have such amazing women in my life to introduce to our little gal. She is so, so loved already…
