Fireside Five on Friday

It’s a miracle! I’m back for Five on Friday. Fridays really are my favorite…I know I’m not alone in this. Charlotte and I get to spend the day together on Fridays, and with this beautiful weather we’ve been having lately it makes for lots of fun out door activities! I feel so blessed to have the day off to spend with her, and I truly cherish every second of it.
I couldn’t be more excited for this weekend because it’s my favorite holiday, people! Charlotte officially has 3 Easter dresses (because every girl needs at least one outfit change!) and two Easter baskets filled to the brim. We’re going to attempt to dye Easter eggs and start all the fun traditions we can! Hopefully I’ll get around to sharing some pictures of the festivities.

Without further ado, let’s recap this week (courtesy of my trusty iphone)!

Fireside Five on Friday ONE– What would I do without a handy husband? I wouldn’t have nearly as many cool/unique furniture items around the house! I got the idea for a new headboard when we got a new King size bed back in October. I knew I wanted to something timeless, and I’m pretty much obsessed with all things Restoration Hardware. So, I designed it and he pulled through like no other. I am SO in love with it! The pictures just really don’t do it justice. Now, all we need is matching nightstands 🙂

TWO– The Library!

I am thoroughly impressed with the kid’s section of our public library. Charlotte has a ball every time. She’s obsessed with books, so of course she likes that part, but there’s also an aquarium, kitchen set, dress up area, blocks…the list goes on. We’ve been going every week so she’s getting used to it and loves playing with the other kids who happen to be there. Yay for free entertainment!Fireside Five on Friday  Fireside Five on Friday  Fireside Five on Friday

THREE– Holy cuteness. This little girl is just so happy these days, and if you could just hear her “silly laugh”. There are no words to describe it. It’s like she learned that if she laughs a certain way, people around her can’t help but laugh too. It’s pretty amazing.

She eats at the big table with us every night now, which she loves (and so do we). We started saying a prayer before dinner a couple months ago. When Eric and I sit down at the table, she puts her hands together and looks like at us like “come on, it’s prayer time!”. We say the prayer, and all the while she has a huge smile on her face…like us saying something in unison is the coolest thing ever. Then, she says “AAAAMEN!” when it’s over. I get that we all think our kid is the cutest thing ever, but there’s just something about a tiny person “praying”! Fireside Five on Friday  Fireside Five on Friday

FOUR– We have graduated to BIG GIRL JAMMIES! This is a big deal, people. Charlotte has worn footed pajamas to bed since she was born. Now that it’s summer, I decided that it’s time for some nice cotton jammies. I think you can tell by the picture that she feels like a princess in them. Fireside Five on Friday

FIVE– The old school tire swing has been upgraded to a Charlotte swing! Daddy and his handy skills made it happen. Now it’s become a nightly ritual to get in a nice, long ride on the swing. She loves every second of it.   Fireside Five on Friday  Fireside Five on Friday

I hope you all have a VERY happy Easter weekend!

Fireside Five on Friday

Can I just say how much I’ve missed Five for Fridays?!?! I know it’s weird, but it’s such a fun way to recapping the week in photos. I’ll be so glad I have this to look back on as Charlotte grows up.

Fireside Five on FridayCue grainy iphone pictures…

ONE– I say it all the time, but it boggles my mind how fast Charlotte is. She moved up to the one year old room at daycare on Monday. Is this not a huge deal to anyone else?! Being the overly emotional Mom that I’ve become, I got in my car and the tears came. I had so many feelings wrapped into one: scared that she was too small for all of the big one year olds, sad that she’s getting so big (I know, it’s an oxymoron- I didn’t say my feelings made sense!), and grateful that she’s ready for the transition and all of the kiddos welcomed her warmly. The teacher in her room is amazing, so I feel super lucky for that. Gosh, this Mom thing is confusing!
I can’t believe she sits in a normal chair and eats! This is only the beginning of all the big girl things to come…

TWO– Things are getting festive around here. I did a little fall decorating near the curb. Our house is tucked away behind a forest of trees, so people likely think we a) are creepsters or b) hermits. Eric is convinced that someone will steal everything…and while he might be right, I’m willing to take that risk for the happiness this brings me when I pull into the driveway. HELLO fall!

THREE– I recently visited my cousin who has two boys. While there I noticed that Charlotte loved a shopping cart that they had. Being the nice people that they are, they said “it’s yours!” and loaded it in the car (unbeknownst to the boys). Granted, she said this was one of 5 shopping carts they have. Anywho, this has quickly become Charley’s favorite toy! She loads it up, puts her purse around her neck (because where else would a purse go?) and goes. She’s a natural shopper. It’s in her blood.

FOUR– These photos both show off how friggen cute this Chiefs Cheerleader is, AND to display just how much Charlotte loves Lilly. She is seriously obsessed with this cat. She doesn’t say many words yet, but one thing she CAN say is “Hiiiii Lilly”. Of course.

FIVE– We hit up Ikea in KC last weekend! We were super excited to go. Because we had been living so close to Denver’s Ikea when we lived in Nebraska, we were definitely having withdrawals from all the killer deals. We’re redoing a room in the basement (get excited for that update) so we found some sweet light fixtures and other goodies. Charlotte did remarkably well while we browsed. She wanted out of the stroller, so naturally Dad put her on his shoulders only to receive the sweetest head hug ever. This girl and her hugs. I can’t even handle it.

Fireside Five on FridayWe drove down to Louisburg, KS to take the kids to the cider mill with our BFFS, the Browns. Once we arrived, we quickly realized it was Cider Fest….which meant WAY too many people. Long lines and hot weather does not equal a good time with two toddlers around naptime. So instead we ate at a “diner” in town, which was really more like a giant cafeteria with the median age being 60.

Fireside Five on FridayGetting these two wild children to take a photo is seriously impossible. Please note that neither of them are fully clothed. That’s how we roll.

Well, that’s the week wrapped up! We’re excited for more fun this weekend. Happy Friday!

The Ol’ Tire Swing

The Ol Tire Swing

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! Since Eric and I got married on Labor Day weekend 4 years ago, the weekend always brings me back to that time. SO many fun memories!

We enjoyed the holiday weekend at home this year. It was full of fantasy football drafts (4 to be exact), smoking meat, chopping down trees (dead ones), and seeing friends. Eric took advantage of the outdoor time and hung the much-anticipated tire swing in the front yard! He recently had his tires replaced and opted for keeping the tires to “recycle” them at home. Although Charlotte won’t officially be able to swing on it for a couple of years, it’s fun for adults! We are looking forward to many memories being made out here in the future. Have a good week! Fun Before and Afters!

Think we stopped blogging? Yea, me too there for a while. Life is busier than ever, but I thought I’d stop for a second to relish in the progress we are making on the house. It’s not a secret that we aren’t huge fans of the exterior of our house. The dreams and to-do list are extensive for changes we’d love to make to make it more pleasing to the eye. With a LOT of help from my Dad (and his tractor) and some serious sweat, it’s really coming along. Eric is seriously so talented and handy- I’m one lucky girl.

BEFORE: Who doesn’t need a wooden ramp to welcome one to their home? And then there’s the lovely porch deck without railings…don’t you just wonder what people were thinking when they made decisions?Fun Before and Afters!IN PROGRESS: Slowly but surely it came along. The first step was a new deck, then railings, new stairs, and finally a new sidewalk leading to the deck.Fun Before and Afters!AFTER: We spend so much time out on the new porch now! With the new (refurbished) furniture and beautiful view, it’s pretty fantastic to be out there now.

BEFORE: Eric and my Dad went to town with the tractor and pretty much cleared out both sides of the lane. It’s a true transformationFun Before and Afters!

Although we loved the canopy, it was so overgrown that trucks couldn’t make it down the lane.Fun Before and Afters!

AFTER: So much cleaner!Fun Before and Afters!

Eric is almost done with the amazing barn door baby gate he made. More on that later!

And this nugget, just because it’s adorable. Father-daughter love is the best 🙂Fun Before and Afters!
