Hope everyone had a great Easter!

Our holiday was especially fun now that Charlotte knows what’s going on! We spent the weekend with my parents and on Sunday with my Mom’s side of the family. We enjoyed a great Church service Saturday night, and Charlotte even fell asleep to the music at the end (first time ever!). Here are some photos to recap the weekend.

I think this photo is a great representation of Charlotte these days. Pure JOY! Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter Easter EasterEaster

Beautiful memories! Now to think how different next year will be with two little rugrats to enjoy my favorite holiday with 🙂

Fireside 5 on Friday! [Valentine’s Day edition]

Happy Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air around here. Not only is it the day of love, but it’s Barkley’s 4th birthday too! It’s hard to believe he’s been with us that long. Poor Barkley, his sweet face didn’t even make it on to this post. Maybe next time, buddy.
I didn’t have time to decorate for Valentine’s Day this year, but I’m still feeling in the spirit. Eric and I aren’t big on Valentine’s Day celebrations….every day is a day for love, right?! We’re going to order some steaks from the butcher, rent a movie and have a nice date night in. Sounds like a pretty solid evening.

I’m linking up on this fine Friday- click the logo below to check out all the other Friday bloggers!

ONE– Of course I did a Valentine’s Day photo shoot! Duh
She is an active one these days, so all of the pictures are fuzzy…
My Mom got Charlotte the CUTEST outfit, stuffed animal and card 🙂 Thanks, Grandma Haug!

TWO– My fortune last week. It was precisely what I needed in that very moment. God is good!Fireside 5 on Friday! [Valentines Day edition]

THREE– I made this Mexican Lasagna Wednesday night. ACTUALLY, I prepared it Tuesday, put it in the fridge, and baked it last night for dinner. I had to work late, so Eric was on daddy duty. To make life a little easier on him, he just had to pop this in the oven and dinner was ready when I got home. I’ll have the recipe up soon. It was devine and the leftovers are equally as good.Fireside 5 on Friday! [Valentines Day edition]

FOUR– I mean, really. How did I get so lucky to have these two sweet faces in my life? Some of the best moments are spent right here on the living room floor, any night of the week. Eric makes Charlotte laugh and smile more than anyone on this planet. Their connection makes my heart so happy. Fireside 5 on Friday! [Valentines Day edition]

FIVE– I made this wooden sign for the basement the other day. It makes for a great edition to the giant, blank walls down there. Between this and the tree wall art, we’re making headway on basement decorations!Fireside 5 on Friday! [Valentines Day edition]I hope you all have a great weekend! I know we will be enjoying the warm(er) weather!

Easter at Our House

Here’s a little rundown of our Easter lunch!Easter at Our HouseEven though our kitchen/dining area is absolutely tiny, we managed to fit everyone at the table!Easter at Our HouseEaster at Our HouseDeviled eggs are probably my favorite part of Easter. My mom and I read about 10 website articles on “how to make the perfect hard boiled egg”. Once we decided on the one we’d follow (Martha Stewart, of course) we went for it. Apparently the altitude wasn’t taken into consideration in Martha’s article because they were far from being the best hard boiled eggs. I cracked one open and it wasn’t even close to being done! So we stuck the eggs back in the pot and re-boiled them, hoping they’d come out OK. Surprisingly, it worked!
I’ve learned a simple way of filling the eggs once they’re done. I’m sure a lot of people already know this, but I’m telling you, it makes life so much easier! I just make the egg filling in a bowl and then fill a small plastic zipper bag with the filling. I cut off a bit of one corner and squeeze out the desired amount into the egg! As for the filling, my family just uses mayo, a little mustard, s&p, and paprika. It sure does hit the spot.Easter at Our HouseEaster at Our HouseMom cooking away!
Believe it or not, there was actually a plethora of other delicious food at Easter lunch…I just managed to photograph the most important of the food items (above).

Rewind- Christmas Gift Giving

I have been anxiously awaiting doing these next few posts! I had a lot of fun this year making DIY Christmas presents. Since I just started my new practice, money was a bit short this year. But I took it as a great opportunity to make handmade gifts, which in my opinion are equally as awesome as expensive store-bought ones.

These two presents were given to my sisters-in-law.

I got caught up in pre-Christmas madness and forgot to take a picture of the final product, but you’ll get the idea. This is a bulletin board for her room! I remembered that Jillian painted her room blue and green, so when I saw this fabric print I thought it was perfect.

I bought a bulletin board and took off the wooden frame.

Then cut the fabric to fit around the board

And used the staple gun to fasten the fabric around the board.

I’ll have you know that I broke my staple gun in this process…it was replaced by a hardcore, much more durable and manly staple gun of which I’m very proud of

I’ll just explain how I finished it off since I don’t have the picture to show!

I used lime green ribbon on two of the corners and also stapled those on the back. That is where Jillian cut tuck pictures into rather than tacking them on the board.

Finally, I painted the wooden frame with flat white spray paint and attached it to the board.

I think it turned out super cute, and I hope Jillian is enjoying it in her room!

My other sister-in-law is in her first year at college! So I thought about the things I needed (or wanted) in college, and came up with a handy dandy dry-erase board. I can just picture her and her roommates writing little notes on it to one another.

So I started out with a store-bought frame

Then picked out some cute scrapbook paper and measured it to the length and width of the frame

Then I wrapped twine around the marker and stapled the twine to the back of the board so the marker will stay in place.

I wrote this message to Ashley on the board, but it’s as easy as wiping it off to write something new.

Ash, I hope you and your roommates are enjoying your dry-erase board!
