It’s All in the Details

As I mentioned before, I had so much fun decorating for Charlotte’s first birthday party! I figure that this is probably the first and last party that I get to determine the theme, so I made sure to have a great time planning for it. I want to remember all that went in to that day, so I thought I’d document some of the details that went into making it so special.

I asked Eric’s Mom for photos of him when he was one. She sent me the sweetest snapshots! He was (and still is) such a cutie! I displayed both of our one year pictures for people to compare how Charlotte looks to us at the same age. Its All in the Details I drew inspiration from one of my favorite blogs, Sugar Bee Crafts (who also happens lives close to us! holla), for these massive prints of Charlotte’s One Year photos. I had them printed at Office Max for a whopping $3.57. They’re 24×36 prints and I mounted them on insulation board from Hobby Lobby ($2.50 each). It was the easiest and fastest project ever, and I can’t believe how well they turned out. Everyone thought they were canvas prints. Several people commented on how expensive they must’ve been. They were shocked when I told them that they were in fact quite cheap! I’ll be putting them up on the walls of her playroom soon. Its All in the DetailsIts All in the DetailsI set out the Shutterfly photo books I’ve made for her over the year, as well as the scrapbook my Mom has made of her life thus far! She is such a crafty lady! Its All in the DetailsFor food, we did snacks and drinks. I found the cute chalkboard tags at TJ Maxx (top 5 favorite places to shop!). Its All in the DetailsIts All in the DetailsThe kiddos at the party received party favors, which were coloring books, crayons and a little tag thanking them for coming to the party. Its All in the Details My Mom made this amazing Happy Birthday bunting banner. It was the perfect “vintage chic” touch! Its All in the Details Its All in the DetailsBrandon was so nice to hang out with the birthday girl while I ran around making the final touches. It was even during the Nebraska game….and if you know anything about Brandon, you know that holding a fussy baby during the game was quite a sacrifice. That’s a super guy for ya! Its All in the DetailsI printed Charlotte’s month-by-month photos and displayed them in a banner for everyone to see how much she’s grown and changed!  Its All in the Details Its All in the Details

Finally, i needed an extra special way to thank everyone for being a part of Charley’s big day…and her first year as a whole. I created some amazing thank you cards at Treat, a branch of Shutterfly whom I adore and use on a monthly basis for photo printing and book making. I was super excited to give Treat’s cards a try, and of course loved them!

The Ol’ Tire Swing

The Ol Tire Swing

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! Since Eric and I got married on Labor Day weekend 4 years ago, the weekend always brings me back to that time. SO many fun memories!

We enjoyed the holiday weekend at home this year. It was full of fantasy football drafts (4 to be exact), smoking meat, chopping down trees (dead ones), and seeing friends. Eric took advantage of the outdoor time and hung the much-anticipated tire swing in the front yard! He recently had his tires replaced and opted for keeping the tires to “recycle” them at home. Although Charlotte won’t officially be able to swing on it for a couple of years, it’s fun for adults! We are looking forward to many memories being made out here in the future. Have a good week! Banana Bread Bake

Although I cook every day, it’s rare that a recipe actually makes it to the blog these days. I thought I’d share this banana bread bake, because it’s delicious!

My Mom brought us a loaf of banana bread she had made. We didn’t finish the whole loaf before it started getting stale. I couldn’t let it go to waste, so I put my trusty breakfast casserole recipe to use with banana bread instead of white/wheat bread. Banana Bread Bake Banana Bread Bake Banana Bread BakeRecipe:

1 loaf of banana bread, cubed
4 eggs
Splash of whole milk
1 tsp cinnamon

Spray a small glass baking dish. Cut up the loaf of banana bread into cubes. Line the bottom of the baking dish with bread cubes.

In a small bowl, whisk together eggs, splash of milk, and cinnamon.

Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until eggs are set.

** This can also be made the night before. Cover with foil and refrigerate. Place in a 350 oven until warm (about 15 minutes)

Enjoy!!

Fun Before and Afters!

Think we stopped blogging? Yea, me too there for a while. Life is busier than ever, but I thought I’d stop for a second to relish in the progress we are making on the house. It’s not a secret that we aren’t huge fans of the exterior of our house. The dreams and to-do list are extensive for changes we’d love to make to make it more pleasing to the eye. With a LOT of help from my Dad (and his tractor) and some serious sweat, it’s really coming along. Eric is seriously so talented and handy- I’m one lucky girl.

BEFORE: Who doesn’t need a wooden ramp to welcome one to their home? And then there’s the lovely porch deck without railings…don’t you just wonder what people were thinking when they made decisions?Fun Before and Afters!IN PROGRESS: Slowly but surely it came along. The first step was a new deck, then railings, new stairs, and finally a new sidewalk leading to the deck.Fun Before and Afters!AFTER: We spend so much time out on the new porch now! With the new (refurbished) furniture and beautiful view, it’s pretty fantastic to be out there now.

BEFORE: Eric and my Dad went to town with the tractor and pretty much cleared out both sides of the lane. It’s a true transformationFun Before and Afters!

Although we loved the canopy, it was so overgrown that trucks couldn’t make it down the lane.Fun Before and Afters!

AFTER: So much cleaner!Fun Before and Afters!

Eric is almost done with the amazing barn door baby gate he made. More on that later!

And this nugget, just because it’s adorable. Father-daughter love is the best 🙂Fun Before and Afters!
